Website National Trust
As our Senior National Specialist for Coast you’ll be the leading source of expertise in this area, providing inspiration and practical advice in equal measure. You will deliver first class expert advice on coastal processes, policy and adaptation to ensure your colleagues have the necessary knowledge to achieve high standards of conservation, access and presentation. Keeping abreast of the latest research and techniques you will inspire your colleagues to develop innovative ways to ensure our coastal environment will be best managed – for the benefit of people, nature and carbon. Our coastal land and the challenges we face are incredibly varied, so there will be no one-size-fits-all approach.
The majority of your time will be spent supporting the delivery of our Shifting Shore’s policy working with local, regional and national colleagues. You’ll also help regional colleagues to develop their local external relationships so that wherever possible issues are tackled collectively. You’ll promote best practice and understanding as you advise, guide and train colleagues in the latest ideas, techniques, technology and research.
You’ll be at the forefront of a Trust wide coastal network and you’ll also be an ambassador for our work externally, building relationships, speaking at events and talking to the media.
This role is the National Trust’s expert in coastal management, responsible for equipping colleagues with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve high standards in this area and for sharing experience and good practice internally and externally. You will also be required to provide marine advice when necessary.
You’ll identify the need for additional external expertise or services, including specialist volunteers, contractors, consultants, academic institutions. You’ll assist with their commissioning and supervision, ensuring that resources are used effectively and securing external funding where necessary.
You’ll liaise at a high level with relevant external organisations, develop new relationships and partnerships and will be an advocate of the National Trust’s positions.
With an in depth knowledge and experience of coastal processes and management you’ll be practical and influential, with experience of having delivered improvements for the benefit of people, nature and climate at a variety of scales. With excellent communication and consulting skills you will have experience of delivering a high-quality advisory service. Proactive and enthusiastic, you’re an outstanding communicator and influencer who’s not afraid to challenge established priorities and practices when needed. Collaboration will be at the heart of your role so you’ll need to be an inspirational leader and enjoy mentoring others.
