Job Description:

The job is that of a manager who will lead and direct the work of a group of appeals officers within a specialized area of tax within the Tax and Charities Appeals Directorate (TCAD) of the Appeals Branch.

TCAD is responsible for the income tax, commodity taxes, and charity business lines of the Appeals Branch. TCAD provides policy direction for the impartial resolution of objections and appeals, and provides technical guidance and advice to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) field operations to ensure consistent application of all files. TCAD is also responsible for the management of high risk and complex referrals on objections, assisting the Department of Justice in the conduct of appeals that are before the courts, and risk managing the law at the objection and litigation stages.

The job duties include managing a team of experts charged with providing feedback, direction and advice in relation to the appeals functions of the CRA. The teams work with, direct and/or advise CRA management, Department of Justice counsel, CRA field staff, and others in relation to managing highly complex factual and legal issues in relation to objections, appeals, and other actions filed in Canada’s court system.

Needs exist in several areas, including opportunities to lead a team dedicated to international tax & transfer pricing, charitable organizations or the Policy: Objections and Appeals team.

  • The CRA’s minimum education standard for the AU-Auditing Group:
  • The eligibility for a designation from a recognized professional accounting association
    or
  • A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in accounting*;
    or
  • A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in business administration, commerce, economics, finance, law or tax**;
    or
  • A law degree*** from a recognized postsecondary institution
